In a remote Finnish village in Lapland, just across the Swedish border, Lasse (Ville Virtanen, The Other Side of Hope Scandi FF 2017), a retiring police officer learns that his illegitimate son has been released from prison and is terrorizing the area.

The young man has found out the family’s big secret and seeks revenge by assaulting people close to Lasse – including Lasse’s other, legitimate, son. The hatred between the two brothers leaves the area in a state of violence forcing the villagers to take the law into their own hands. While trying to prevent the brothers from killing each other, the police officer is forced to face his past mistakes.

An arctic modern western taking place on both sides of the northern Finnish-Swedish border,  debut director Jussi Hiltunen teams up with the acclaimed cinematographer of The Fencer (Scandi FF 2016), Little Wing (Scandi FF 2017) and Hanna (2011), Tuomo Hutri, for this innovative entry in the emerging genre of far-flung Nordic Noir, which brilliantly makes use of the spectacular landscape’s desolation and isolation.

The kind of work I have been waiting for from a Finnish film.
